In accordance with the policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain name is registered with must be valid and accurate all the time. At the same time, this info is publicly visible on WHOIS lookup web sites and while this may not be a problem for corporations, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since everybody can view their names and their personal postal and email addresses, all the more so in times when identity fraud isn’t that atypical. Because of this, domain name registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their clients without editing them. The service is called ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. If it is activated, people will see the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner, if they do a WHOIS search. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic domain name extensions, but it is still impossible to hide your private details with some country-code ones.
ID Protection in Web Hosting
If you have ordered a Linux web hosting
from us and you’ve registered one or more domains under your account, you will be able to enable ID Protection for any of them without any difficulty and to keep your private details intact. Of course, this can be done only with the extensions that support this option. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll see an “ID Protect” symbol next to each of your domains. Its colour will inform you if a domain name is ID-protected or not and in the second case, you can add ID Protection with just a few mouse clicks. In this way, you can shield your private details even if you haven’t added the service upon signup. You will be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any of your domain names just as easily.
ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you choose to order a semi-dedicated server
package from our company, you’ll be able to add ID Protection to any of your domain names by following a couple of easy steps. In case you register or transfer a domain name during the account activation procedure, you can get the service along with the domain name. In case you skip this step and you change your mind afterwards, you can activate the ID Protection service from the Hepsia Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you can manage the entire semi-dedicated server account. This is also the place where you can activate ID Protection for all other domains that you register with our company after the signup process. Renewing or removing the ID Protection service is just as easy and will require no more than a couple of clicks of the mouse.
